I truly believe that every person is born on this earth for a unique and specific purpose. They are an answer to prayers of the past, the present, and the future. Everything about them is designed to enable them to accomplish a task that only they can accomplish. Because I hold this view, I am of the opinion that there are no truly poor people in this life. There are people in poverty, yes, but not anyone who is truly poor because there is no person who has nothing to contribute.
My own purpose was revealed to me in a dream. It is simple, but daunting. I am to teach God's children how very much He loves them. I don't always succeed in living my life with that purpose in mind, but today I was reminded of how important it is to do just that. Every thought, every word, every action needs to be oriented toward that direction. Children and adults alike are starving for lack of love, unaware that there is a banquet of it waiting for them in Christ. Instead they try to find the love they are missing in sex, in drugs, in power, in money, in possessions, in the bottle, in video games, and in the world. Naturally, these things fail to satisfy because they are like junk food for the soul - tasty but ultimately empty in nutritive value.
