This morning, I prayed a long time that God would conform me completely to His will. As often happens, when I went to daily Mass this afternoon, Father's homily was about doing God's will. He reminded us that what God will count as important when the day of judgment comes is NOT what we had in life but what we did with what we had.
He talked about the simple act that those who drive can do of offering rides to others. Giving a ride to another may mean going out of your way to get them safely home. It may mean that you don't get your errands all finished that day. However, this simple act of charity may save a life. It may be the instrument that God uses to answer a prayer. It may restore the hope of a person who is feeling hopeless. And, you open yourself up to the possibility of receiving some of God's wisdom from that person.
We all have the ability to do God's will. God's will is that we take what we have and we use it for the benefit of others. We share our lives and our talents and our gifts with others. It will not be convenient to do this. It will require that we make an effort to reach out to others. It will require that we keep our eyes open for those who might need our talents or gifts or time. It will require that we be willing to go out of our way, to put aside our own plans and conform our plans to fit with those of another. However, the blessings that will come from being willing to do this are new friendships, new insights, and even discernment of a direction God desires us to go.
Today, I ask you: What are you doing with what you have been given?
