The Sacrament Song

I teach 5th Grade Catechism class and have been searching for a more creative way to present the sacraments, a way that will stick in the minds of the kids. As I was sitting in a conference on Mystagogy, this is what I came up with. It's called the Sacrament Song.  Let me know what you think. It's a bit long, but it covers the seven.

The Sacrament Song
By Brandy M. Miller

Refrain:
Sacraments are signs to us of Christ’s unfailing love
And through them we receive the help we need from God above
To serve in faith and truth and love the people all around
So when the end of life draws near in heaven we may be found

Sacraments are broken into categories three
Initiation starts us on the path to set us free
Healing brings us back to Christ and joins us in unity
Service brings us all together in a life of community
Refrain

Baptism is a sacrament that washes us from sin
So that when this life is done heaven will let us in
It draws us through the waters of death into new life
Through it we are changed, transformed and readied for all strife
Refrain

Eucharist is a sacrament that feeds us on the way
The sacrifice of Christ’s great love in bread and wine display
With His body and His blood He strengthens us each day
Giving us the grace we need so we don’t go astray
Refrain

In Confirmation’s Sacrament we promise to be true
To share God’s love with others in everything we do
Our cross our sword our shield the truth we join in the fight
Against the darkness we work together to bring Christ’s light
Refrain

Confession is the sacrament of God’s mercy over me
Helping heal the wounds of sin restoring unity
The words the priest speaks absolves me of my sin
Graces given help me start my journey once again
Refrain

The Sacrament of Holy Orders makes a man a priest
Giving him the graces he needs to serve the very least
He blesses and makes holy our Eucharistic feast
He leads us on our journey til we become deceased
Refrain

The Sacrament of Matrimony joins a woman and a man
Uniting them in life and faith as only God’s grace can
Together in God’s love they bring new life to our community
And teach the young to know God’s love and live in unity
Refrain

Anointing of the Sick is the last sacrament we receive
And prepares our souls for heaven if this life we must leave
Given to those approaching death or who are very ill
It pours God’s healing upon the body if that is His will
Refrain
