It's not surprising, but it is sad. A petition has been launched to label the Catholic Church a hate group. The charge is that the Pope "demeaned and belittled homosexual people around the world." Upon what grounds is this charge made? According to Pink News, a site that calls itself Europe's Largest Gay News Service, the Pope dared to assert Church teaching when he stated that, "People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being. They deny their nature and decide that it is not something previously given to them, but that they make it for themselves."
This was but a portion of the full address given to the Roman Curia. The saddest part, of course, is that homosexual relationships were just a part of what the pope talked about in that address. What he said to them regarding commitment, families, and the nature of men and women is nothing but the obvious and plain truth. Men are born with traits which women do not possess. Women are born with traits men do not possess. This is a scientific fact, embedded in our very genetic code, which cannot be changed or altered by surgery. Children are only able to come about when these two different natures are united. That it is possible to use science to facilitate this process and thereby eliminate the need for the conjugal act does not change the fact that all children are born to a man and a woman. Science cannot alter it, no matter how hard some might try. Homosexuality may have a genetic component to it, just as heterosexuality does, but engaging in sexual activity is a choice and thus is completely within the control of the parties involved. There is nothing demeaning or belittling about presenting facts.Of course, facts such as these are hate speech when you hate the speech because it destroys the illusion you are trying so hard to create.

Not one of the journalists I found who bashed the pope bothered to do the right thing. Not one of them provided a link to the full text of the speech so that their readers could read it and make a decision for themselves on whether or not there was "hate speech" involved. I found the link to the text fairly easily by visiting the Vatican's website, so it wasn't a matter of things being hidden. Not one of them were objective. They presented opinion as fact. It is clear to me they lack not only integrity but also respect for their readers, readers who are being misled because they give them their trust. It is the journalists, not the pope, who are guilty of hate speech. Unfortunately, it won't be the journalists who pay the ultimate price for this obvious and coordinated attack against the Church. It will be the pope, and all who dare to stand up for the truth.
I wrote some time ago about the coming persecution of the Church. The petition I referenced earlier only has 24 signatures so far, in spite of how widely publicized the issue has been, so it may never see the light of day. However, take note. I think this may well represent the sparks that eventually light the flame, and those sparks are being fanned by irresponsible journalists.
